Frugal Beauty Product Review: Cabot Seban Spot Treatment

My skin changed a few years ago. Instead of the combination skin I became accustomed to in my teens, I noticed my so-called T-zone area spread to my cheeks. I will not go into a long, drawn out list of products I've tried, attempting to rid myself of this incessant problem. Instead, I'll give you a preview of a very inexpensive, yet effective product that was recently sent to me to try: Cabot's Seban Spot Treatment. I have been using a more expensive product, Bliv Off with Those Heads (formerly Cellnique Pro Sebum Gel), and I wanted to find a product that is not only as effective, but a lot cheaper in price. With Bliv's product, it took a couple of weeks for the oil production to slow down. And even with the two week lead time, I still find that some of my pores remain clogged after a week of use. Not to mention that while the mattifying effect lasts about four to six hours (depending on the climate), the product leaves the skin thirsty. After using, I wanted to reach for the moisturizer. The product is expensive, and I was afraid to compromise the effects the product promises (i.e., unclogs pores, slows down oil production, exfoliates dead skin cells). Spending over $60 on 1.7 oz, was traumatic enough, but to not feel thoroughly impressed with such an expensive product, leaves much to be desired.
In comes Seban Spot Treatment, which is $4.95 for a 1.2 oz bottle (plus shipping is free!). Upon first inspection, I appreciated the applicator's ease of use. The container eliminated the need for cotton balls, clumsy fingers, and ensures complete use of all the product without making a mess (as opposed to Bliv's clumsy pump device that completely hides the product. Not only do you not know if the product is full, it is easy to overpump/overuse the product). Seban Spot Treatment glides on smoothly, and dries to a matte finish. The real test for me, was how long it would take for the dreaded oil slick to start rearing it's ugly head. I used the product one particularly hot and humid evening, and noticed my skin didn't start showing signs of oil for about three hours. And when it did, it didn't act like the oil refinery it usually is. It was more of a dewy finish, which I can live with. For under five bucks, Seban Spot Treatment is a fabulously frugal buy. It's inexpensive, and does what it says, which are two things I value in a product. After I finish the Bliv, I think I'll be spending my money elsewhere.
